Maker Faire - Poster Design & Event Branding
Maker Faire showcases and celebrates creativity and making of all types. It is a convention where makers share their makes, ideas, processes, and connect with other makers. All types of makes are shared technology, craft, tinkering, science and sometimes textile work.
Fabric and textiles are one of human’s oldest technologies and mediums for making but fiber products are often overlooked and undervalued. So I created branding that celebrates and brings attention to textiles at Maker Faire.
For this project I designed 3 small mini-quilts in Illustrator, sewed the quilts using traditional methods, then used the quilt photos as a base and added additional digital elements to finalize the designs. The lettering is cut from fabric and applied by raw edge applique, intentionally allowing the imperfect raw edges to reveal the materials and process. Washing the quilts after they’re complete is the final hands-on step, the fibers shrink slightly giving the piece more defined texture.
